Creating a Wildflower Meadow

Many people would love their own meadow filled with wildflowers and are astounded when they find out just how simple it actually is to have your own. It is its awesome feature, it is as simple as planning it, plant and grow it. When I say planning it is simple to as you need to simply check out as few things which I mention below.

  • Depending where you live, you have to establish when the last frost date of the area is and that you only plant after that period.
  • Depending on what type of mixture of wildflowers you want to plant such as partial shade etc., you need to pick a nice sunny spot that gets no less of six hours of sun daily.
  • Your planting area or soil where you want to start your meadow must be cleared of the growth it might currently have. Simply dig, turn the soil and flatten it and if nothing has ever been planted in your lifetime or while you are staying there just turn the soil and flatten.
  • Buy your seed mix and take a little bit of sand and mix with your seeds as it makes sowing easier. All you do is scatter it evenly without being too precise on top of the raked soil. Hand sowing is great when you cover a small area and if it is to large get yourself a seed spreader.
  • Without actually burying the seed, make sure you still compress it lightly by walking on it or when a larger area you also get seed rollers for that job.
  • Getting it to grow is incredibly easy as you only need to keep the soil moist and not wet until your seedlings pop up and reach a height of five inches tall. After that your job is done as the hardy nature will ensure that it continuous to thrive on natural rain unless you experience extreme drought in your area. Then you can water occasionally.
